Session 1. Teach Spanish in Spanish: Why and How. Alberto Buitrago (University of Salamanca)

Use of the target language in the teaching-learning process is a universally recognized practice in world language teaching. ACTFL recommends that teachers limit their use of the home language to 10% and use the target language 90% of the time.

In this presentation, we offer resources and strategies to empower teachers to take a determining role in transforming their classrooms into authentic and effective communicative spaces… en español.

10:30 - 11:45 am

Session 2. Experiential Learning: Affective and Effective Dynamics and Activities in the Spanish Classroom. Álvaro Sesmilo (Edinumen USA).

For our Spanish classes to be effective, we must go beyond teaching vocabulary and grammar. The types of activities and dynamics we use and how they connect with our students are key elements for academic success, adding relevance, enjoyment, and motivation.

In this session, we will analyze different dynamics and activities that work in the classroom and reflect on the importance of having materials that allow the development of emotional connections and help students learn Spanish effectively-affectively.
