Why Mundo en Acción Florida is the most effective instructional program for Middle and High School Spanish language acquisition learners?

Mundo en Acción Florida is a K6-12 standard- and research-based Spanish language acquisition program carefully designed by Edinumen’s expert pedagogical team, following the principles of Edinumen’s Active Learning model, structured in four phases: Exploration, Activation, Development, and Feedback. This is a student-centered model backed by over 30 years of exclusive dedication to Spanish language education and by ongoing research into how students acquire languages most effectively and durably in classrooms across more than 50 countries.

As a result of this extensive experience, each unit in Mundo en Acción Florida is built around the principles the pillars of Edinumen’s Active Learning and ACTFL’s Core Practices for Languages Learning, guiding students step by step toward the development of real communicative competence in Spanish.

Each unit follows a clear sequence that begins with (1) an initial exploration phase designed to spark interest and activate prior knowledge, opening the door to meaningful learning.

Then, (2) key linguistic content —vocabulary, grammar, and communicative structures— is presented and practiced actively, building a solid scaffold through input that makes language comprehensible to students, building confidence, and communicative and intercultural skills.

This leads to the development of (3) proficiency in all communication skill modes (interpretive, interpersonal, presentational) and intercultural skills (Culture, Comparisons, Connections, and Communities) through a variety of engaging learning formats (video, reading, writing, culture, interdisciplinary connections, projects, etc.) Grammar plays a central role in this process as a tool for constructing meaning. It is presented in a communicative, practical way through guided activities that promote understanding, use in context, and real-life application. Throughout the unit, students engage in the three modes of communication —Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational— allowing them to apply what they’ve learned through real-world communicative tasks. Instruction is student-centered and action-oriented, with a consistent integration of cultural components from all perspectives: Products, Practices, and Perspectives.

The final phase (4) consolidates our backward design model approach to unit design, devoted to metacognitive reflection and assessment. This final phase aligns with the unit’s objectives grounded on the state’s WL standards and ACTFLs latest proficiency guidelines, facilitating student learning while fostering student autonomy.

All of this is enhanced by the use of interactive digital resources, gamified activities, and appealing audiovisual materials that transform the classroom into a motivating, engaging, dynamic and transformative interactive experience.
