Meeting FLDOE 2025/2026 World Languages Requirements

Requirements and Key Pedagogical Foundations

Alignment with National, State Standards and National Proficiency Guidelines
  • Mundo en Acción Florida is Fully aligned with the Florida’s Next Generation Sunshine World Languages, ACTFL’s Standards, and the latest 2024 ACTFL’s Proficiency Guidelines. In the eBook, teachers can view the specific state standards addressed on each page along with a brief description. These standards emphasize the development of functional communicative proficiency, intercultural interaction, contextualized language use, and the integration of 21st-century skills—all reflected in the structure and activities of every unit.
  • Reflects the five main (5Cs) ACTFL standards: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities. In the Teacher’s Guide, each activity is labeled with both the state and ACTFL’s communication skill mode and intercultural skills. Activities are designed to help students develop communication skills across the three communication modes: interpretive, interpersonal and presentational, facilitating student understanding, interaction, and the expression of meaning. Language and cultural comparisons are integrated to enrich students’ linguistic and cultural awareness and foster global competence.
Focus on Communicative Competence
  • Balanced development of the five communication skill modes: interpretive listening, interpretive reading, interpersonal communication (speaking and writing), presentational speaking and presentational writing.
All units feature integrated performance- and proficiency-based tasks that develop communication skill modes, with some sections dedicated primarily to specific ones: Fotonovela and Video (listening), Literature Workshop (reading), and Writing Workshop (writing).
  • Includes meaningful and authentic language use.
Activities are designed not just to practice linguistic structures but to perform real-world tasks such as expressing opinions, requesting information, planning events, or creating digital content. This approach provides students with flexible, functional, and contextualized language tools.
  • A clear pathway to ACTFL-aligned proficiency levels.
Each unit guides learners from early exposure and exploration to increasingly autonomous, fluent, and accurate language production, aligned with ACTFL’s Can-Do descriptors and Proficiency Guidelines. Students build the ability to understand, interact, and express themselves in authentic Spanish-language situations.
Interculturality
  • Provides comprehensive content that targets each one of the standard-based intercultural skills.
  • Promotes understanding and respect for Spanish-speaking cultures.
Each unit includes two dedicated sections—Cultura and Descubre—designed to connect students with the Hispanic world through its cultural products and practices.
  • Incorporates current and authentic cultural perspectives.
The cultural strand in Mundo en Acción Florida allows students to engage with real-world beliefs, perspectives, and ways of life.
  • Fosters intercultural competence through communicative tasks.
Culture is not taught in isolation but is integrated into communicative activities. Students use the language to explore, compare, and reflect on their own experiences and those of others, developing a critical and respectful global outlook.
Support for Differentiated Instruction
  • Adaptable to diverse learning styles and proficiency levels.
Mundo en Acción Florida includes visual supports, scaffolded instructions, and optional reinforcement or extension activities, making it ideal for classrooms comprised with students with different levels of proficiency. Every student progress at their own pace, with the right level of challenge and real opportunities for success.
  • Built-in scaffolding strategies.
Guided activities, modeled examples, grammar and vocabulary charts, and sequenced tasks help students understand input and produce output gradually. These supports are phased out as students gain confidence and competence.
  • Opportunities for engaging in autonomous learning and collaborative structures.
Each unit includes varied learning formats, encouraging reflection, peer collaboration, and self-regulated learning. Independent work inside and outside the classroom promotes personal initiative, autonomous learning, and the ability to apply language in new contexts.
Assessment and Monitoring
  • Includes tools for both formative and summative assessment.
The program offers a variety of assessments to track ongoing and holistic student progress. All digital platform activities are self-graded, supporting self-reflection and helping identify strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Clear rubrics, self-assessment, and timely feedback.
Assessment tools come with ACTFL-aligned rubrics and Can-Do descriptors in each communication skill mode, ensuring transparent, consistent, and learner-centered evaluation. Teachers are also provided with answer keys for the Self-Assessment section to share with students as needed.
  • Aligned with ACTFL proficiency levels.
All assessment tools are designed to measure student performance across communication modes based on ACTFL’s proficiency benchmarks.
Effective Learning Strategies
  • Activates prior knowledge in every unit.
The Unit Opener and Comenzamos sections are designed to connect new content to previous experiences, stimulate curiosity, and lay the cognitive foundation for meaningful learning.
  • Implements spaced and contextualized practice.
Content is revisited throughout each unit in a variety of communicative contexts. This approach consolidates vocabulary and structures over time and promotes functional language use in real-world situations.
  • Encourages critical thinking and metacognitive reflection.
Through open-ended questions, cultural comparisons, text analysis, and discussion tasks, students are invited to express opinions, justify ideas, and explore multiple perspectives. Specific moments for self-reflection help students identify effective strategies and recognize their progress.
